How It Works

For laser hair removal we use the Gentle Pro series of machines from GentleMax. The Gentle Pro is a dual wavelength laser platform that combines the fastest and most powerful 755 nm Alexandrite laser with an equally powerful 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser for high performance treatment capabilities in terms of speed, efficacy, ease-of-use, performance, safety and patient satisfaction.

The laser technician will press a hand-held laser instrument to your skin. Depending on the type of laser, a cooling device on the tip of the instrument or a cool gel might be used to protect your skin.

When the laser technician activates the laser, the laser beam will pass through your skin to the tiny sacs (follicles) where hair growth originates. The intense heat from the laser beam damages the hair follicles, which inhibits hair growth.

Lasers can selectively target dark, coarse hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged.

Speed

Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can treat many hairs at the same time. The laser can treat an area approximately the size of a quarter every second. Small areas such as the upper lip can be treated in less than a minute, and large areas, such as the back or legs, may take up to an hour.

Predictability

Most patients have permanent hair loss after an average of three to seven sessions.

What Should I Expect?

You can expect to see a gradual and cumulative reduction over several treatments. When hair does grow back between treatments, there will be less of it and it will be finer and lighter. There’s no healing time required for laser hair removal, Although, some patients may experience temporary redness or swelling which can be calmed with product.

After the procedure you might notices redness and swelling for a few hours. To reduce any discomfort, apply ice to the treated area. You should avoid sun exposure – both natural and artificial light from tanning beds. You might also experience hair shedding in the first few days and weeks after treatment. This can sometimes be mistaken for hair regrowth. When your skin has healed, use sunscreen whenever you’re in the sun.
